Senior Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History at the University of Auckland
Maxine Lewis is a Senior Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History at the University of Auckland. She specialises in Latin language and literature, as well as Classical Reception. She has a passion for Catullus and the way his work has been “used and abused” over the centuries. In all her work, Maxine has a keen interest in the study of gender and sexuality, including the representation of women in texts.
Maxine has published scholarship in both Classics and Classical Reception (mostly with a literary bent), along with the occasional think-piece for Cloelia and mainstream media.
Maxine is also very dedicated to teaching, and passionate about mastering diverse pedagogies. (For more information on her teaching, research, and service duties, see her staff page here).
Maxine can mentor people working in Classics and/or Classical Reception.
