In 2021 we established a new online reading group for AWAWS members. This group connects members for regular discussions in a social setting. We set readings about a month beforehand, on a range of themes within the AWAWS purview. Such themes might include the role of women in our disciplines today, challenges affecting women in ancient world studies, the contribution of women to the disciplines, the ways in which women approach the past differently and how that has benefited the discipline, as well as feminist approaches to the past and women in antiquity more widely.
Even if demands on your time mean that you cannot read the readings, we encourage members to come along and enjoy the discussion and review - it's a great chance to meet other AWAWS members around the world! We meet online 4 times a year (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct), and always offer two sessions on different days / times to try to account for timezone and commitment variability.
